Sparring time, one of Kusano's favorite moments of the week.
As the 11th Division Captain before him, Kusano organizes Sparring Time
every Thursday. All Shinigami within Seireitei not doing any missions can stop by
the 11th Division's barracks and enjoy a good sparring match with
the Seireitei's toughest fighters.
At the end of the day, the toughest Shinigami of the week is announced,
that will be the Shinigami who has won the most sparring matches.
Which is currently Kusano himself. Ever since he became captain, he's never lost a single match.
Kusano sat in the center of one of the sparring grounds, meditating and waiting for a challenge.
Though today his focus was off, he couldn't keep his mind empty.
Why can't I concentrate!...
His fingers tingled, his head ached and his right forearm was itchy.
What the hell is wrong?...
Then, he felt something touch his neck. And then it felt as if something went through his spine, every single nerve in his body tingled.
Blurry images materialized in front of him, changing into people he once knew, his current friends, people he'd never seen before and... Zeno..
...Zeno?...
Zeno was wearing a strange haori with some mysterious symbol on it, surrounded by shifting shadows.
Demons were crawling out of the shadows and shifted into humans.
They were all wearing demonic masks.
Who are they?... What the hell is all this nonsense!?...
Then, Zeno placed his hand above his hand and slowly moved it downward. When it passed his face, dark energy erupted from his hand.
Kusano's vision got blurry...
Everything was black. Shadows were shifting again, demons crawling out of them.
Once again shape shifting into masked strangers.
Zeno sat down on one knee. The masked strangers held their hands on his shoulders,
Zeno stood up. Adrenaline shot through Kusano's body.
Zeno was also wearing a mask now.
Their eyes met, Kusano was staring at those dark, evil eyes.
Kusano blinked and...
Opened his eyes. He was still sitting in the center of one of the sparring grounds.
Looking around, Zeno moved a bit. First his arms, then his hands and fingers and then when he wanted to get up he felt something on his neck.
His arm felt heavy as he reached for his neck. He took the leaf and examined it.
Nothing special about it, just a leaf that was carried here by the wind.
Or was it?
I've never seen a leaf like this one before... There are no trees in the area that carry such leaves... Kusano thought and got up.
He put the leaf in his haori, he'd examine it a bit better later.
The sound of footsteps echoed through the sparring ground that was surrounded by walls.
A demon crawled out of the shadow of a tree at the entrance.
His first challenger arrived.
