Appearance: Kuketsu always has the standard Captain attire with the Captain’s Haori of his division over the usual Shinigami uniform. Due to taking pride in his duties as a captain in the Gotei 13, he wears his Haori in battles as it reminds him of his responsibilities as a Captain. However, if he feels that it is too torn up, he will take it off. Kuketsu keeps his hair short and kempt and always looks confident; holding his head high and looks into the eyes of whomever he converses with. His zanpakuto lies on the left side of his waist.

Personality: When in times of peace, Kuketsu is fairly talkative and always smiles a warm, accepting smile which gives others comfort when talking to him. Because of this, other people go to him when they have troubles and seek advice. He listens to what they tell him and will not judge them, unless he is asked too or his job demands it, and then gives them advice based on the information they give him. He likes to take strolls around the Seireitei in his free time or when frustrated as he finds it calming and gives him to think.

When in times of distress, Kuketsu becomes rather quiet, serious and calculative. If he faces a troubling situation, he performs numerous, quick simulations in his head, trying to find the best solution. In this state, he usually never smiles and folds his arms or fidget with his zanpakuto. Although his stern attitude, he still listens to what others say and respects them just as much as he does when carefree.

When it comes to his leadership duties, Kuketsu is rather lenient. He lets his subordinates do what they want to do for the most part, as long as they carry out their duties. Additionally, he takes responsibility for any and all of his followers’ decisions. However, he will punish his followers equally to the severity of their crime. He always has at least one group of his subordinates patrolling around the Seireitei to keep track of the criminal activity. They must report everything they find to him and he determines if their actions were unjust. If the threat is too strong, he insists that the patrolling squad retreat and let him deal with it personally.

Fighting Style: Kuketsu uses a combination of speed, Zanjutsu, Kido and intellect to win most of his fights, as he does not excel in Hakuda. He has moderate skills in Kido, which he uses to compliment his Zanjutsu. He tends to get near his opponents only when he sees an opportunity to strike. He usually attempts creating this opening by using Kido spells or immobilizing his opponent. Although, there are times where he will get close to his opponent to put pressure on them with a series of slashes and stabs in an attempt to force an opening only if he cannot create an opening from afar.

Background: When he was alive, Kuketsu lived a neighborhood filled with criminal activity. Many crimes were committed on a daily basis. Several times, Kuketsu saw defenseless people getting robbed and dead bodies lying in the streets. It was disheartening and he could not tolerate those kinds of actions, but he knew he was too weak to do anything to stop these criminals. Due to the excessive amount of criminal activity in his neighborhood, Kuketsu rarely ventured outside for long periods of time. Most of the time, he would just stay inside his house and come up with supernatural stories in his head like him becoming a superhero who fought crime. All he desired was justice and to protect the people he cared about.

One day, when he was 10, Kuketsu woke up in the middle of the night to a loud noise. Someone had broken into his house. When he got out of his bed and ventured to find the source of the noise, he heard his mother scream. Kuketsu then ran to where he heard the scream to find two men in black masks and his mother lying face down on the ground in a pool of blood. They each carried a knife. Kuketsu was frozen in terror at the site of his mom’s corpse. Suddenly, Kuketsu’s father rushed into the room and punched one of the robbers in the face, knocking them out. However, the other man pulled out his knife and stabbed Kuketsu’s dad in the throat. As he saw his father’s corpse drop to the floor, Kuketsu became consumed with rage and charged at the remaining robber. He attacked the robber with a flurry of punches, but being as young and weak as he was, Kuketsu was easily overpowered. The thief stabbed Kuketsu in the back, killing him. Kuketsu fell to the floor, seeing the burglar run out the door as everything went black.

Kuketsu woke up in a street alley and couldn’t remember anything. He saw a broken chain attached to his chest and futilely tried to take it off. After he gave up, Kuketsu wandered around the neighborhood hoping to find out what happened to him. He eventually ran into a Shinigami who told him that he was dead. Kuketsu began to cry, but the Shinigami tried to cheer him up by telling him that he can go to a better place. After Kuketsu calmed down, the Shinigami performed a konso.

Kuketsu then woke up in a Rukongai district. With no recollection of his past life, Kuketsu began wandering around the district. As he walked down the dirt road, Kuketsu saw rundown houses around every corner and filthy people wandering the streets. He saw stores and diners getting robbed, and people arguing constantly. Around a corner there was a group of kids carrying food running towards him. They were being chased by an adult carrying a large piece of wood. Kuketsu figured that the adult was trying to take their food, so Kuketsu decided to help them out. As they came closer, Kuketsu grabbed a long piece of wood lying in the road and hid behind a corner. As the kids passed the corner, Kuketsu jumped out and swung his stick, hitting the adult in the leg, tripping him. The kids quickly turned around and looked at Kuketsu and then quickly ran off again. Kuketsu followed them.

When they weren’t being pursued anymore, the kids thanked Kuketsu for helping them. Kuketsu then asked them what they were doing with all that food that they were carrying. The kids told him that their food was stolen by the adult pursuer Kuketsu tripped earlier and decided to steal it back. Kuketsu felt that their actions were appropriate and nodded. They were friends from then on. Years passed. Kuketsu continued to see crime happen around the district as his desire to protect his friends and cleanse the society of crime became stronger. Eventually, he saw Shinigami come through the district and associated them as the police force, so he approached one and asked him where he can become one of them. He was told about the Shinigami Academy and the Gotei 13 and finally saw a way to become stronger and help stop crime. Shortly after, Kuketsu joined the Shinigami Acadamy.

While in the academy, Kuketsu became an excellent swordsman as well as gained Kido skills. He trained everyday with his goal as his motivation. However, Kuketsu had a tendency of trying to complete training missions alone, even if he was in a team. Although, after a few lectures about why he should not do that all the time and getting punished, he started to break his habit. By the time he graduated, Kuketsu fully broke his habit and awakened his Shikai. He then joined the 6th Division of the Gotei 13, since that was the division that had the task of protecting the Soul Society.

Kuketsu started to finally achieve his goal. Even though he was at a low rank, he still was assigned tasks of patrolling the Soul Society and apprehending criminals. Even though most of the time he did not find criminals, Kuketsu still patrolled with a large smile as he saw people peacefully going about their day. Kuketsu still trained every day, but sometimes he would train with his other friends in the division and find new ways to fighting together. Eventually, Kuketsu climbed the ranks and, after years of training, achieved Bankai. He then became the Captain of the 6th Division. Kuketsu had finally made his dream a reality.

During the Espada invasion, Kuketsu decided to stay in the Soul Society instead of going to the real world. During the chaos, he had his followers patrol the Soul Society in groups and kill every Hollow and Arrancar they find and save anyone in distress. However, he sensed an Espada in East Rukongai and decided that he would go there to fight it while his followers kill the weaker Hollows and Arrancar. When he arrived at East Rukongai, Kuketsu met the Sexta Espada. It was a long battle, but Kuketsu managed to defeat the powerful Arrancar and uphold his duties as a Gotei 13 Captain.
