Here at Maelstrom, we take a different approach to Roleplay Samples -- not only will this be your ticket in the door, but it will also help to determine which races you will be better suited for. As people of greater positions of power (Shinigami Captains, Espada, etc) drive the roleplay, it is important for these people to be of a quality that will allow for the best experience for the site as a whole. That is why higher positions are restricted to those who can demonstrate a strong roleplaying ability.
Thus, we require from you a small roleplaying sample that is
A) 300 words minimum. As most pieces less than 300 words would be of questionable quality, both in terms of information and means in which said information is delivered, this minimum really should not be hard to achieve if you are writing a strong piece.
B) 1000 words tentative maximum. As surprising as it may sound, the staff here at Maelstrom are not only humans, but also engaged in the roleplay, as well. That being said, samples that are over this limit would be difficult to grade in a timely manner and would not only delay your acceptance to the site, but the acceptance of others (as they would have to wait until yours is finished).
~~
The character and setting for this roleplay sample will be "a day in the life of a normal human". Essentially, we are looking for your ability to develop a plot and effectively integrate your character into it, not your ability to crush heads and blow up the moon, which is why this subject matter is a must. Not a Superhuman. Just a regular human on a regular day.
You will have two chances to make an initial roleplay sample. If you do not receive the tier you desire with the first grading, you will have one more chance to make a different sample and resubmit for a (hopefully) higher tier. After the second sample has been submitted, you must wait a month before you may provide another attempt.
There are currently four tiers :
Tier 1
The highest tier you can receive and also the most difficult. To manage to make this tier, your writing must not only be fluent and well-conceived, but must also have a vibrancy of its own. There are no restrictions on what races you may use should you achieve this tier.
Tier 2
The second highest tier you can receive. To manage to make this tier, your writing should be well-constructed in a manner that leaves little question as to the plot and characters involved. Upon receiving this tier, only the Elder races are out of your grasp -- you may make a character of any seat of power of your choosing.
Tier 3
The third highest tier you can receive. This tier is for those that have problems in their writing that may cause issues for those reading it, be it a lack of notable content, confusing structure, or simply an abundance of mistakes. Those of this tier typically have a fatal flaw in their otherwise strong writing and are thus placed here until they overcome it. They do not have access to the Elders, nor do they have access to the people of the highest seat of power, such as Captains and Espada.
Tier 4
The last tier. Those who have managed to make their way into this tier have shown promise that their writing will improve but currently suffer from a good deal of fatal flaws that hamper their writing ability. Considered the "Remedial Tier", this a tier for those who require some notable assistance to improve their writing in comparison to those of higher tiers.
