Name: Allan Gray
Age: 157 years dead
Visual Age: 27
Years since Entrance into the Gotei 13: 53
Gender: Male
Division: 11th
Rank: Captain
Appearance: (I usually draw character sketches, but I'm too lazy right now. I'll try to churn one or two out later.)
Allan is a tall man, standing at approximately 6'8" (or 203 cm), with a well-toned body that weighs in at 194 pounds (or 88 kg). His hair is short and extremely shaggy, and strangely, entirely stark white. Even stranger than his hair color are his eyes, which are bright red. In regards to wardrobe, Allan has opted out of the traditional Shihakusho, instead wearing a short sleeved black spandex shirt with a fur-lined vest and his hakama under his sleeveless Captain's haori. The haori, of course, he only wears when he is required to.
Personality: Allan is a man of extremes. Just when you think you understand him, you'll find that he's actually the complete opposite. Though in all respects, he is quite unique. Upon first meeting him, one will notice the distinct and pungently obvious fact that he is a heavy drinker. His favorite alcohol is rum, and he is rarely seen without a bottle at hand. He is always some variation of inebriated, ranging from slightly tipsy to completely smashed. After this foremost fact, if one cares to stick around long enough to delve deeper, the first seemingly oxymoronic detail of his persona will come to light. Despite, or perhaps because of, his heavy drinking, Allan is quite able to maintain his wits, and in fact, remains much the same as he is normally, when under the influence of alcohol. In truth, even under the haze of drunkenness, Allan is quite proper, and really, a true gentleman. He is, perhaps, the last man, dead or alive, who believes in and follows a code of chivalry. This would seem to be at odds with his position as the Captain of the Eleventh Division, however, there is one more facet to his personality that will be shown to those who are around him long enough. While his chivalrous nature decrees that he will not instigate a fight for no reason (but if he's attacked, he sees no reason to not retaliate), once he has been engaged in combat, he fights ruthlessly, stopping only when his opponent is unconscious or dead.
Allan is a fair and just leader. He doesn't like to get involved in others' disputes, but he will intervene if he has to. He tends to be relaxed most of the time, and tries to let his subordinates do the same. Many of the Eleventh Division members, the Division being what it is, find Allan to seem weak, and his approval rate amongst the members, both seated and unseated, is rather low. However, he holds no grudge to anyone who doesn't like him, and values each of his subordinates the same. He believes that it is a leader's duty to defend his subordinates, and if anything ever happens to his (even the smallest of things), he will personally seek out the culprit and deliver justice. Those few who have witnessed this display of devotion have all changed whatever opinions they had of him.
Fighting Style: Allan has a natural affinity for combat. He can use most any weapon he happens to pick up fairly competently, and is quite good with his Zanpakuto. However, his true strength lies in his fists, and his eternal preference is hand-to-hand combat. His power is divided equally between speed and brute strength, for he believes that to use both in harmony is better than to only specialize in one. He is also quite spry, training his agility every day. All of this allows him to hit hard and fast, and then be able to get out of the way before the opponent has a chance to counterstrike.
Background: In his life on Earth, Allan Gray was known as a bounty hunter who brought the worst criminals to justice. He roamed the Western coast of the U.S. during the time of the Gold Rush, until he was finally done in by one of his most infamous targets. His sense of justice stuck with him somehow through his years as a Whole and when he went to Soul Society. When he witnessed how the Wholes lived in poverty, he was moved in a way that the crimes of those he'd brought down in life never could. His time in Rukongai was then spent helping the poor and repressed souls who lived there any way he could. Anything from menial labor, to giving money to orphans, to helping someone who was in trouble with criminals.
One day while taking a walk, Allan saw someone being harassed by a Shinigami. He casually walked up and tried to calm the situation, but the Shinigami was already agitated and could not see reason. He retaliated violently, though completely unprovoked. Allan had been quite strong even as a human, so he did his best to defend himself. However, in the end, a Whole is no match for a fully-trained Shinigami, however corrupt they may be. As the Shinigami's Zanpakuto pushed into his stomach, he couldn't help but think that perhaps all Shinigami were like this, judging by the state of the Rukongai and those in it. Him being who he is, he instantly swept that notion aside with the much larger revelation : whether or not the previous question were true, it was painfully (literally) obvious that there was at the very lest one such Shinigami in the Seireitei. What's more, in that moment he decided that it was imperative that someone infiltrate this system and purge these obvious errors.
He didn't even wait for his wound to heal before entering the Academy. While there, he got top scores in everything except kido. He graduated quickly and went straight into the Sixth Division, where he began his work, purging the Gotei of corrupt Shinigami like cancerous sores. He moved up in ranks faster than the majority of Academy graduates, and it was widely believed that he would be the next Captain of the Sixth. However, when he gained his Bankai, he took up the position as the new Captain of the Eleventh. This was a shock, as his image didn't quite match up with the accepted standard for the Eleventh Captain. Due to this, rumors began to spread amongst the lower-ranked Shinigami, that the new Eleventh Captain was a man of monstrous size and Reiatsu, who could rip whole mountains asunder with a glance. The rumors got more and more ridiculous, but Allan never did anything about it.
Thus Allan Gray became the supposed raging beast of the Gotei.
